We are therefore seeking an experienced and dynamic

PUBLIC AFFAIRS MANAGER INTERNATIONAL

to join the team at our offices in Brussels.

 

You will play a crucial role in advancing our global positioning and outreach activities with a particular focus on carbon management and pricing policies, accounting rules and standards at organization and product level, and procurement frameworks. 

You will report directly to the Vice President of Group Government & Public Affairs.

The position is located in Brussels, Belgium.

Your tasks & responsibilities:

  • Lead and execute public affairs campaigns and direct advocacy activities at global and EU level.

  • Engage and collaborate with external stakeholders, including government agencies, research institutions, industry partners, and funding organizations, to foster strategic partnerships, especially concerning carbon management frameworks, standards and guidelines at organizational and product level.

  • Represent Heidelberg Materials in main associations and actively participate in political initiatives and relevant international and regional platforms.

  • Conduct regulatory analyses and identify opportunities and risks aligned with our company's sustainability roadmap. Develop and coordinate internal and external group positioning on main legislative dossiers.

  • Support the organization of Heidelberg Materials representation in major international events and conferences.

  • Keep track of policy trends, publications and events on relevant topics including industrial decarbonization, clean tech, energy transition, funding and other priority sectors in the region. Regularly inform and advise senior management.

Job requirements

Your profile:

  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in an international firm, industry association, or international organization. Exposure to energy-intensive industries or the built environment is a plus.

  • Proven track record in government relations or public affairs, with a deep understanding of political processes and the ability to influence regulatory agendas at both European and global levels.

  • A comprehensive understanding of climate policies, including compliance and voluntary carbon markets, and carbon accounting frameworks is essential. Familiarity with building and product standards, LCA methodologies, and chain of custody models is advantageous.

  • Strategic mindset with the ability to translate complex policy developments into actionable advocacy plans as well as policy papers, position statements, and briefings for senior leadership.

  • University Degree in the fields of political science, law, sustainability /environmental management or any related field with relevance.

  • Excellent networker and experience engaging with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, including policymakers, NGOs, industry peers, and think tanks.

  • Excellent English language skills; German is considered an asset but not required.

  • Willingness to travel.
