Heidelberg Materials Belgium is currently looking for a 

LEGAL COUNSEL

 to join the team at our headquarters located in Braine-l'Alleud.


Your tasks & responsibilities:

Environmental Topics, Sustainability, Climate Law: 

  • You will be the Point of contact for any legal questions with regard to legal sustainability matters, including in particular projects related to energy, CCS, CCU
    climate change law (including emission trading systems & carbon capture, usage & storage (CCUS) projects).
  • Follow up on the legal framework for carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS) and support the set-up of related projects.
  • Technology projects Cem (i.e. Anthemis or similar).
  • Decarbonization of our sector (esp. carbon capture, usage & storage (CCUS) projects as well as the legal framework for low-carbon products).
  • Circularity to reduce and reuse materials and natural resources.
  • Biodiversity and sustainable water management programs.
  • Legal advice on sustainability matters.
  • Energy Law and contracts/projects related to this field.
  • Environmental legal advice on low carbon products.
  • Sustainability Academy. Training employees on ESG regulations and environmental law topics.
  • Support with legislation and advise for environmental audit.

Public Law:

  • You will be the point of contact for legal questions/project related to public/administrative law.
  • Permits to construct and to operate for plants in all business lines.
  • Support legal defense in administrative proceedings.
  • Quarry permits.
  • Other public law issues (such as air & noise protection law, water law, nature protection law, waste law, land-zoning, chemical law, …).
  • Administrative Concessions (i.e. quarries, Ports).
  • Maritime Concessions.
  • Administrative Law Academy. Follow up of law changes and training to employes on Administrative law relevant topics.
  • Organization and control of permits, overview of legal requirements and deadlines.

Civil Law, Commercial Law and Contracts:

  • You provide support on Civil Law, Commercial Law and Contracts.
  • Questions in the areas of general civil and commercial law and liability issues.
  • Draft and review contracts, conduct legal negotiations, support defense of claims.
  • Prepare templates, use digital tools to make work and control more efficient.
  • GTC all business lines (revision, update and maintenance).
  • Prepare presentations, training and statistics.

Legislaton update:

  • To organize systeme to follow up legislation impacting the business and changes in law in, filing and communication of relevant information.
  • If necessary, prepare and agree with relevant Lawyers and business on implementation action plans.

Job requirements

Your profile: 

  • You have a master’s in law (preferably Environmental/Administrative/ Public Law).
  • You have about 4-5 years’ experience in an industrial company or law firm (preferably in the matters of your field of responsibility).
  • You are fluent in Dutch, French & English.
  • You are a structured and organized person, capable to assume responsibilities, to be accountable, to follow up and finalize projects by yourself.
  • You are an excellent communicator; you dispose of writing, convincing and negotiation skills.
  • You are a team player who likes training, but also learning from others, ready to constantly improve and revise actions to ensure the use of best practices always.
  • You are a fast learner, hard worker; you are assertive, proactive, well-organized; you have a critical sense and an analytical mind.
